When I first arrived at Purdue in 2011 from Rajasthan, India, I faced challenges a lot of international students face — from adjusting to the pace of life to having to make sure Subway understood my sandwich order.By the time I earned my MSAA in December 2012, I felt more at home. I'd joined Purdue Graduate Student Government (PGSG), and now I serve as the vice president of external affairs while I work toward my PhD.The first year can be lonely, for both domestic and international students, but one thing international students often don't realize is how easy it is to approach people for help here. That's why I wanted to start the PGSG Buddies program, aimed at facilitating cross-cultural interaction among busy graduate students. The PGSG International Student Host Program also provides a friendly point of contact to incoming international graduate students.I enjoy being able to meet people from many different walks of life. I don't believe I would have gotten that chance were it not for Purdue.
